From the Nurse

May 20, 2013

From the Nurse:

What a great year this has been.  The Nikiski community has proven to be a caring and giving group towards the students of Nikiski Middle/High School.  As the School Nurse, I have had the opportunity to meet with many of you.  Getting to know your kids and looking after them in the Nurse’s office this year has been a pleasure.

It’s never too early to look at next year, so on that note – if you have a student who is due immunizations in the summer months I will be sending a letter home.  Please remember that it is district and school policy that all immunizations are up to date in order to attend classes.

If your student has medications at the Nurse’s office, please make arrangements to pick them up before the last day of school.  New forms will be available in the fall for next year medications.

Have a safe and healthy vacation.  Happy summer!

Boil Water Notice

2/5/13 – Water is now safe for drinking!

Good Afternoon Bulldog Families,

During the power outage that occurred in the Nikiski Community last night, the water system at Nikiski MS/HS lost system pressure.  Due to the loss of pressure in the water system, the Alaska Department of Enviromental Conservation Drinking Water Program has issued a Boil Water Notice which ensures proper maintenance to restore water flow and correct any problems with the water treatment system.   This means any use of water from this system should not be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes or food preparation unless it is boiled for at least two minutes prior to use.  Restrooms and locker room facilities are able to be used at this time.  Students are encouraged to bring their own water bottles from home for the days to come. There will be water coolers available for use also.  We are hopeful this issue will be resolved by next week.  For more information please see above link or contact Marie Clore with KPBSD or Jamie Bjorkman with the DEC Water Program.
